The human body is the elemental medium of emotions, feelings, intelligence. The ultimate conduit for human relationships. Choreographer Julie Bour is essentially drawn to human relationships and interactions - the ever-changing alchemy of the exposure of Self to Others.
In a world where new technologies move us away from physical contact a little more every day, Julie Bour wants to return to the primal way of expression: the body. Dance as the initial language, honest and unfailing witness of the subtleties of the human soul and its interactions with the outside world. In that primal place, vocabulary becomes instinctive, blunt and in constant evolution, fusing nature and nurture, culture and identity, better than any words can. Without discarding the fundamental mutations induced by these technologies, the question becomes how to chose the purpose we give them, the place we allow them to take. In that search, dance can be a means to preserving our comprehension of this organic link with creation, this emotion carrier, this fantastic raconteur that is the human body.
Company Julie Bour is an international, multi-cultural entity, relying strongly on the networks, experience and bridges provided by The Flying Mammoth, created by Julie Bour and Loic Noisette in 2006. The combination of energies, cultures and identities within and around the company translate into a unique array of collaborations and interactions - and a unique voice. This voice is on the verge of expansion as the Company embarks on residencies both in France and New York City that will not only result in the creation of new works, but also in a variety of social interactions as cultural and pedagogic outreach.
